I’m talking about marques that have been ended by their manufacturer, or brands that have left the market you live in. I’ve had 4, and so has my partner:
Pontiac - 1 (1980 Pontiac Phoenix LJ)
Mercury - 1 (1991 Mercury Sable LS)
Geo - 1 (1993 Geo Prizm LSi)
Oldsmobile - 1 (2001 Oldsmobile Alero GL1)
My partner has owned a Plymouth (Sundance Duster), a Saturn (SL2), and 2 Suzuki SX4s.
I think by far the Alero was the best. The Prizm was ok, but the Alero was a decent car for the money. I think they were underrated.

My parents owned an Infiniti FX45 for a couple years, but the Infiniti brand never came to Brazil, just private imports.

I’ve owned two Toyotas and two Hondas. It could be argued that they’ve been “dead” for a couple of decades now.

Suzuki Esteem and Mercury Grand Marquis, so two.

I have had two dozen Saabs over the years. Dad drove an Eagle Premier, mom had an Eagle Vision. There was a Plymouth Voyager back in the mists of time, too.

None so far, though Land Rover has a comedy string of external ownership. VW, MB, Ford, Buick, all still going strong.

Willys - one.

My dad’s owned two MGs - a B and the modern F. Dearly miss those two cars.

If you can count “Austin Mini” and “pre-Ford Jaguar” then two. I have owned two.

5.5
‘98 Bonneville, ‘00 Grand Am (never titled, fixed and sold), ‘91 Olds Custom Cruiser, ‘76 Delta 88, ‘75 Delta 88 (parts car).
The 0.5 is the ‘86 Nissan 720. The 720 was a Datsun until 1983, then was a Nissan Datsun in 1984, before becoming just Nissan in 1985.

I was going to say the same about my old bimmers, mercs, and audi. Nowadays, they are a joke and an insult to past.

Are we talking a Daewoo rebadged LeMans? That could count double.

Peugeot 505 turbo wagon (Peugeot has been dead in the usa for a long time)
![]() 07/13/2015 at 11:37 |

‘83 Olds Custom Cruiser wagon;
1/2 a Lancia Beta Scorpion.

yes. That LeMans.

Daewoo and Pontiac both being out, I’d say it’s on the double word score square.

5 so far. 6 if you count bastardized Models (‘12 VW Routan)
‘84 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Brougham
‘84 Mercury Cougar
‘00 Saturn SL2
‘02 Saturn VUE
‘08 Pontiac G6

1987 Saab 900
2005 Saab 9-5 wagon

At one point someone in our family had a couple Mercury Sable wagons.

What ever happened to that Buick Century you were driving?
![]() 07/13/2015 at 12:06 |

It circulated back into the family pool, then either got sold or passed on to more distant relations, I don’t remember which. It *was* rather awesome, in a beigeness-wearing-a-suit kind of way.

I’ve had an Austin Mini, and have a Lancia, which is basically a dead brand at this point, so that makes 2.
How did your partner like the SX4s? They seem like pretty neat little cars.

All the brand of cats I have owned are still going. Although if you count rebadging a Suzuki to a Chevy. Then only that one.

True. BMW as it exists now is dead to the E28, and the W126 is laughing at its grandchildren.

I had my SX4 for 5 years new in 2010 till feb 2015.
Loved mine, and miss it. Fun to drive, easy to park, easy to hoon. biggest cons, was the lack of space in the trunks, when you have passengers. That and the small gas tank.
well made cars, made to last. unlike the brand did here.

dead brands only a saturn sc1 and a suzuki SX4.
Dead models, A manual 1985 sentra Wagon, manual Hyundai s’coope, 1991 Cavalier Z24(V6 and 2 door)and the protege5.
And I would have to add a 1991 honda civic, you know when a Civic was the size of a civic, and light too.

They were both good little cars, especially fun in the snow. I hated the 4-speed automatic though. He liked them so much that his mom bought one, hers has the CVT. The CVT is better than the geared auto, sorry to say.

If we count dead models, I’ve had way more of those. Also, I’ve owned a bunch of cars that aren’t made anymore.

I decided not to count my two Chevy Sprints even though they were Suzukis, because the Chevy brand is still sold here.

I didn’t mind the Sable so much. Problem was it had no working A/C, and the defrosters could not handle any kind of rain or humidity. I frequently had to stop driving in the rain because of it.

In my family, plenty.
75(?) AMC Gremlin (my uncle)
Several 90’s and early ‘00 Grand Prixs (my aunt and uncle)
76(?) Pontiac Grand Prix (my other uncle)
77 Pontiac Firebird Esprit (my aunt, then me)
77 Pontiac Trans Am (me currently)
91 Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais (girlfriend now wife)
94 Plymouth Voyager (wife’s mom)
94 Eagle Talon DL (me)
95 Plymouth Neon (me)
97 Oldsmobile Bravada (wife/me)

My mom’s friend and my babysitter when I was young had a Phoenix LJ. Thing was cool with all the vents and gauges and stuff on the dash. I think it was a hatch, too.

My first car was a Pontiac 6000, followed by a Mercury Tracer and a Saturn SC2. I must've gotten the knack from my dad, who had Oldsmobiles, a Pontiac, Mercuries, and an AMC Jeep.

My de facto first car was a Celebrity. A-bodies for LIIIIIFE!!!

‘Cool’ is not the word I’d use for mine. It was a 1980 5-door, and it was an abomination. I had warned my stepdad that it would be a POS but he got mad at me, thinking I was just turning my nose up at it because it wasn’t a Honda. I don’t know where he got that idea from, I’ve never been a Honda fanboy.
It leaked every fluid a car can leak, the 4-speed manual sucked, the gas gauge (or since it was a GM car, the “gage”) read 1/4 tank when empty, which stranded me a few times. The vacuum hose would come off and have to be replaced daily. My stepdad finally gave up and traded it for a Celebrity, and he actually apologized to me for buying it.

The Scorpion was a 2-seater with a lift-off roof - ran like a bigger, poorly-tuned Fiat X1/9. The key to getting it started was: 1) wait for a warm day; 2) push it out of the garage into the sun; 3) wait some more.
I remember as a kid seeing the Beta in a print ad, and it really hit me. To my mind, it’s one of the most handsome coupes ever designed.

If it had been as good as a Cavalier (!) It would have been good enough, but they couldn’t even do that.

there is one 505 turbo sedan up the hill near Union City. Darn thing is near mint but the tail light is cracked. I left a note when I was 18 that I was genuinely interested in it and that I wanted to give it a good home. Put my number on the note, no response. The sedan model has irs while the wagon is dual coil solid axle. Darn wagons had a good payload too.

Six pontiacs, an Eagle Summit DL, and an MG MGB in the US.
